“You can smile when your heart is breaking because you’re a woman.”
The Other Boleyn Girl follows Mary and Anne’s tumultuous journey through the English court, courting the king, and the ultimate downfall of the Boleyns.
What I loved most about Philippa Gregory’s books is the slow pace. The reader follows the everyday lives of the Boleyn girls in excruciating detail. If you don’t like to be saturated in a story then these books are not for you.
Anne is such an awful person. She’s selfish and willing to comprise everything and everyone around her to get what she wants. Anne does not consider the consequences for her actions.
Mary is naive and annoying most of the time, but she eventually discovers what makes her happy and makes a path for herself.
The only issue I had with this book was the ending. It was rushed and gave little information as to what happened.
Overall, The Other Boleyn Girl was a great read if you want to dive into the 1500s and experience it first hand.
